Roger Simon Weighs in on the U.S. Supply of 31 Abrams Tanks to Ukraine

Live from Music Row Thursday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed all-star panelist Roger Simon in studio to comment upon the recent decision by the Biden administration to supply Ukraine 31 Abrams tanks in its war with Russia.

Leahy: Now in studio, all-star panelist, good friend, my former boss at PJTV, Academy Award-nominated screenwriter, novelist, and columnist. I think the most popular columnist at The Epoch Times, is Mr. Roger Simon. Good morning, Roger.

Simon: Good morning.

Leahy: I’ve got something I want to ask you about. What on earth, ah, is going on with the Biden administration and the decision announced yesterday to give 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine?

They want to spend more and more billions of dollars to defend the border between Ukraine and Russia and ignore the invasion of our southern border with Mexico. Your thoughts?

Simon: I think a lot of things are going on here. One of them is it’s a big wag the dog issue. Because I think there’s nothing Biden wants more than to seem like he’s macho in foreign affairs when he’s sinking incredibly on all fronts domestically. Not just all the documents being found virtually everywhere but in his bathroom.

What that does do to the investigations that are coming to the “Biden crime family,” which are now probably taking on more power because of this. So both of these work together. He’s sort of toast. He’s a desperate man, which is what can cause real problems because this is the escalation of a war.

And I read a piece in the Asia Times the other day because my friend Mark in New York sent it to me that said, in actuality, the Ukrainians are losing the war. Now, we’ve been told at INFAM item by our mainstream media that they’re beating up the Russians.

And this is a war, of course, between two gangsters, essentially Putin and Zelensky. Neither of these is a great Democracy unless you want to believe Time Magazine.

Leahy: Actually, Time Magazine just did a story about the ongoing corruption in Ukraine. So even they’re getting smart.

Simon: This is after their Man of the Year announcement.

Leahy: What’s interesting about this, Roger, is I think you’re exactly right. This has been a huge escalation in our support for Ukraine in this Russian invasion at the same time that we’re not defending our southern border, even though we’ve got laws that say you should defend your southern border.

Simon: Exactly. The southern border is horrifying, and the fact that the idea of Biden or Kamala going down there is just BS anyway. What difference does it make whether they go or they don’t go? They do the same things or don’t do anything. They could go 45 times, and it wouldn’t make a difference.

Leahy: What is troubling to me about the Biden administration’s decision yesterday to escalate our support for Ukraine in this basically this European regional conflict between Russia, which is a bad actor, and Ukraine, which has bad actors as well. The troubling thing to me, Roger, is that the many elements of the establishment in Washington, D.C. are supporting this move. I think it’s very bad.

Simon: With David Stockman coming up, I hesitate to make an economic statement. I’ve noted in the last two days the stock market has gone up, and in a situation like this, it means the government is going to be spending crazy amounts of money.

Leahy: Borrowing to spend crazy amounts of money.

Simon: On weapons. And it’s been said that we are losing our weapon supplies and are not able to handle China anymore. That’s kind of scary because China is a serious player, and the Ukraine-Russia thing is not as serious.

Leahy: It’s a mess that could be escalating into a worldwide conflict. And I think it’s very reckless to do that.

Simon: Very reckless. And the other thing you pointed out is that Russia controls the skies in that area, and they could be taking potshots at our AVA tanks which are very expensive and high-tech.

Leahy: None of this makes sense to me, Roger, and I think it’s a bad direction. It’s a bad way geopolitically for us to start 2023, in my view.

Simon: Terrible and scary because of the escalation.

Leahy: Now we’re in a zone where something crazy happens, and this thing, it’s almost like the beginning of World War I.

Simon: World War I was absolutely insane.

Leahy: It’s got many of the earmarks.

Simon: And Russia has the most tactical nukes in the world.

Leahy: Yes. These are all problems.
